Dr. Soyoung Jeon joined the Department of Economics, Applied Statistics, and International Business at New Mexico State University as an Assistant Professor in Fall 2020. She earned her Ph.D. in Statistics and Operations Research from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 2012. Her research interests lie in interdisciplinary applications of statistical methods, particularly in business, agriculture, biology, and health-related fields. She focuses on environmental health risk assessment in communities, with an emphasis on air quality and public health in border regions. In 2023, Dr. Jeon joined the NIH/NCI Partnership for the Advancement of Cancer Research (PACR) team as a project lead on the full project “Systemic Understanding of Cellular Mechanisms of Metabolic Adaptations in Cancer.” She is currently collaborating with the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Center to investigate metabolic expression changes in cancer cells using machine learning approaches.
